FILM & POST SCREENING DISCUSSION
In partnership with KinoDendy Cinemas, AICE presents a special screening of
the critically acclaimed film ‘Jewboy’, written and directed by Tony Krawitz,
followed by a discussion of the film between James Hewison (Melbourne International
Film Festival) and the director.
Described as ‘a gem not to be missed’ by The Sunday Age, ‘Jewboy’ (52 minutes
long) is the story of 23 year old Yuri Kuvner, son of a Rabbi, who, living in
Israel, returns to the Hasidic community of Jewish Sydney at his father’s death.
Through his grief, Yuri struggles with his faith, his family and his community,
as he comes to understand who he is and where he is from. A sensitively observed
exploration of the tension between traditional values and modern life in Australia,
the film is a brave piece of cinema
Screened at Cannes and Karlovy Vary International Film Festivals to much acclaim,
‘Jewboy’ screened at the Jerusalem International Film Festival in July, where,
supported by AICE, Tony Krawitz attended the screenings.
