Monday 25 June 2007
Dear community members,
In 4 days time, the SZCV, together with the Melbourne community, will embark
on a week of campaigning to highlight the fact that Israeli soldiers Gilad Shalit,
Eldad Regev and Ehud (Udi) Goldwasser are still being held captive by terrorists,
almost 1 year after being kidnapped from sovereign Israeli soil Gilad
from Israels border with Palestinian-controlled Gaza, and Udi and Eldad
from the northern Lebanese border.
The week will culminate in a rally at Melbournes GPO (cnr Bourke and Elizabeth
Streets) on Monday June 25 from 12.30 to 2pm. The rally has been planned to
coincide with the day, 1 long year ago, that Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by Palestinian
terrorists. Ehud (Udi) Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were kidnapped by Hizbollah
terrorists just 18 days later, sparking the month-long Second Lebanon war.
The Solidarity Rally is an initiative of SZC youth and will be led by Victorias
Zionist youth movements and AUJS, with the aim of engaging all segments of the
community in the week-long campaign lead up to the event on June 25.
Show your support at the rally on Monday June 25 for Gilad, Ehud (Udi) and Eldad.
The Blue Ribbon campaign initiated by SZC in response to the kidnapping
of Gilad Shalit on June 25, 2006 is continuing. Lengths of blue ribbon have
been kindly donated by Spotlight. Single ribbons are available from the Beth
Weizmann reception. Please contact the SZC if you would like a particular quantity
for your organization (safety pins are also provided).
As part of our campaign week to raise awareness throughout the community, we
are utilising the 1 Year blue ribbon logo attached (see below).
It is easy to use: just save it and insert it as a picture in your
emails, together with your signature, etc. By doing so, you will provide a simple
and effective reminder of the 3 young men still in captivity.
