A performance one will never forget! Punch
Fiddler On The Roof is an international phenomenon virtually unrivalled in the annals of entertainment. It has touched audiences of millions of people across the globe of widely differing cultures and religions, age groups and ethnic backgrounds, with its humour, passion, warmth and honesty and has become one of the worlds most loved musicals.
In what will undoubtedly be the Melbourne theatrical event of 2006, audiences will have one last opportunity to see the legendary Topol perform the role that made him an international household name when he performs his multi award winning portrayal of Tevye at the Gala Night at Her Majestys Theatre on 13 June 2006.
Topol is joined on stage by a stellar cast of 35 of Australias best actors, singers and dancers including Judith Roberts, Barry Crocker and Maggie Kirkpatrick.
Fiddler On The Roof is about a man and his relationship with his family, his people, the enemies of his people, and his special relationship with God. Its also about love and tradition. It is about pride and dignity, joy and happiness.
The celebrated score features songs loved the world over. If I Were A Rich Man has to be one of the most recognized songs from any musical and Matchmaker was a monster hit for Barbra Streisand.
Fiddler on The Roof has won 9 Tony (New York) Awards and Olivier (London) Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Lyrics, Best Book and Best Actor for Topol. It was one of the longest running musicals in Broadway history and continues to play across the globe. Topol also won a Golden Globe Award and Oscar nomination for his role of Tevye in the feature film of Fiddler on The Roof.
Fiddler is a timeless musical the comedy and the passion are infectious, and I doubt one will ever see a finer stage performance than that of Topol. It is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity
Topol fell in love with Melbourne during the sell out season at The Regent Theatre in 1998, and has chosen to return here for his farewell Australian performance, following seasons in Sydney and Brisbane and prior to the Asian tour and return to Londons West End Tim Lawson, Producer, Fiddler on the Roof
